Moves are triggered by a variety of factors – for example: reorganisation, rationalisation, merger, take-over, expansion, lease expiry. Somewhere within whatever has triggered the move is an aspiration dying to get out and be noticed. At the end of it all, you want the organisation to be functioning better, or more appropriately, in its new space; otherwise, what’s the point? You’re not doing it because you like it. And moving is an expensive and disruptive thing to do.
Keep a focus on why you are moving. It’s easy to forget that the move is a means to an end, not an end in itself. And make sure everyone else knows that, including any consultants and contractors you engage.
